What a great joy and pleasure it has been to spend a couple of days out of the past week hanging out with and getting to know some our Fiesta Especial royalty. The royal visits on Friday were absolutely wonderful. We started out with 8 members from our court and ended the day with 6. We visited the Sunshine Cottage where we popped in on two classrooms. Then, it was off to Independence Hill, where we caught up with some Sr. Citizens during their lunch time. We stopped off at the picnic tables at Boardwalk on Bulverde and then headed over the Brighton School where we were surprised by a visit from the Queen of the Decade, Shelly Miles! We ended the day visiting the patients at Warm Springs Rehabilitation Center. It was a full day, but a lot of fun! A special thanks to everyone who made this day possible for our court.
What a joy and an honor it was to be a part of the Royal Court Coronation on Saturday, February 18th. As we broke new grounds featuring the first royal court for individuals with special needs, there was great excitement for this monumental occasion. The room was filled with a sea of faces that celebrated the crowning of our 14 member court. It was an experience I wouldn't have missed for the world. If you weren't able to be there,
We got the announcement from the Fiesta Commission this morning that there are 92 days until Fiesta...and counting. Tick tock, tick tock. So much to do and so very little time.
We're anxiously awaiting the results of the Fiesta Especial Royal Court contest. The entire court will be presented during a coronation at the Hand-in-Hand event at Morgan's Wonderland on February 18th. Who will be the next King and Queen of Fiesta Especial? I can't wait to present the announcement! The parade is coming together well and the entry and guidelines are almost ready to post. Now all we need is parade entrants and all those runners and walkers who just want to come out and create a little awareness for people with disabilities. Just posted up a couple of pics of some of the simulated and virtual reality rides that will be available for your enjoyment at the event. Fun stuff! Just a quick welcome to VIA Metropolitan Systems for coming in with a game today. Try your hand at guessing which of the 4 oversized VIA cards match-up. I may have to give that one a try. The Leadership Team met this morning to work on the planning and all is moving forward. Sponsorship packets were distributed along with all of the forms for Parade entry. We'll get those updated and posted up online soon! The volunteer registration form was tweaked and you can now download those here on the site. We worked on the forms for our school and disability service provider's special purchase option and those letters and emails will be going out this week.
We had a new Food Vendor application come in today and we're pleased to welcome Krazy Kettle Korn to the event. Pending approval, they'll be bringing the tasty delights of Kettle Korn, Funnel Cakes, Gatorade and Volcanic punch to There's never a dull moment around here! I spent a good deal of time yesterday and today updating the website and Facebook pages with lots and lots of details! We have a few vendor in to date and all of the sponsorship, underwriting and vendor registration information is posted. I'll spend this week seeking out sponsorships to help underwrite the costs of the event. With the charitable aspect of inviting over 3,000 children and adults with special needs to attend at a 75% discounted rate, I need to raise at least $45,000 to make this possible. And, that's just the beginning! I sure have my work cut out for me. Let's do it! If you know of anyone who might be interested in supporting an event like Fiesta Especial, send them my way!
